3rd Economic Cooperation Organization Attorneys/Prosecutors General Conference held

Islamabad, January 31, 2018 (PPI-OT): Pakistan hosted the 3rd Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Attorneys/Prosecutors General Conference at Islamabad from 30-31 January 2018. H.E. Mr. Raza Rabbani, Chairman Senate of Pakistan was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session of the Conference. High level delegates from the Offices of the Attorneys/Prosecutors General of the ECO Member States participated in the Conference. The Secretary General of ECO, Mr. Halil Ibrahim Akca headed the delegation of the ECO Secretariat.

The Conference was chaired by Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali, Attorney-General for Pakistan. The meeting deliberated upon issues such as mutual legal assistance, judicial cooperation, human trafficking, migrant smuggling, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime and terrorism, fight against cybercrime, judicial reforms, measures against corruption and mutual cooperation among Attorneys/Prosecutors General offices. The Attorney General for Pakistan also hosted a cultural evening followed by a welcome dinner for the delegates.

The successful holding of this Meeting is a manifestation of the desire and commitment of the Member states to transform ECO into a vibrant and leading regional bloc. It is also a testament of Pakistan’s commitment to act as a harbinger of positive changes and development in the region. On the sidelines of the Conference, the Secretary General ECO along with Heads of Delegations of ECO member states paid a courtesy call on the President of Pakistan. The Secretary General ECO also called on the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

Pakistan, being a founding member and the current Chairman of ECO realizes its responsibility and extends full support to the ECO projects and initiatives. Pakistan has always played an active role to ensure regional integration and interdependence amongst the member states. We support ECO’s agendas and initiatives and have always encouraged further enhancing the current steady progress.
