4 Congress MPs suspended from Lok Sabha for entire session after protests

New Delhi, July 26, 2022 (PPI-OT):Four Congress MPs have been suspended from the Lok Sabha for the entire monsoon session ending August 12 for holding protests with placards inside the house over price rise. The suspended Congress MPs are Manickam Tagore, Jothimani, Ramya Haridas and TN Prathapan.

“That this House having taken serious note of the misconduct of Manickam Tagore, TN Prathapan, S Jothimani and Ramya Haridas and utter disregard to the House and the authority of the Chair and having been named by the Speaker resolve that the above mentioned members be suspended from the service of the House for the reminder of the session under Rule 374(2),” Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi read out a motion seeking their suspension for the rest of the session. The motion was put to vote and passed by a voice vote. The Chair then adjourned the House for the day.

After the Speaker’s action, the four went near Mahatma Gandhi’s statue on the parliament grounds and raised slogans there. The Congress said the government is trying to intimidate its MPs by suspending some of them. “Our MPs were trying to raise issues which matter to people,” the Congress said.
