KARACHI: Karachi administration’s campaign initiated against violators of fixed prices continued in all seven districts of the city in which on Wednesday fine of Rs391,000 was imposed against 86 violators.
The Commissioner Karachi, Muhammad Iqbal Memon, directed all deputy commissioners to further gear up the action against the profiteers, conduct surprise visits to check the commodity prices and take actions against the shopkeepers for overcharging.
According to a handout issued here by the office of commissioner Karachi on 21st Ramazan ul Mubarak, Rs124,000 fine was imposed against profiteers in district south, while Rs150,000 fine was collected in district Central.
The details of fines imposed in other districts was as Rs46,000, Rs11,000, Rs8,000, Rs42,000 and Rs10,000 in district east, west, Malir, Korangi and Keamari, respectively.
The further details showed that seven bakeries were fined Rs74,000, 10 poultry shops Rs32,000, 18 grocery stores Rs105,000.00, seven meat sellers Rs38,000 ,10 vegetable sellers Rs19500, 15 fruit sellers Rs20,500 and 18 milk sellers Rs102,000.
The commissioner further directed the deputy commissioners that if any shopkeeper was found violating fixed prices of essential food items, his commodities would be sold at the government fixed rates by holding on the spot the auction in presence of the concerned owner/shopkeeper.
The Karachi administration has also made arrangements to set up Bachat Bazaars under the supervision of all Deputy Commissioners to ensure the availability of items of daily use to the citizens at official rates.
