The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) has released its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Report for 2024, revealing that its member companies contributed approximately Rs14 billion to CSR initiatives, impacting more than 45 million people across Pakistan.
The contributions reflect a 13 percent increase compared to the previous year, with projects aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key focus areas included Quality Education (SDG 4), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), and No Poverty (SDG 1).
OICCI President Yousaf Hussain emphasized that true business success is measured by its impact on society. He highlighted that the report showcases members’ commitment to community upliftment, inclusive growth, and sustainable development. He also underscored the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to build a more resilient and prosperous Pakistan.
OICCI members’ social sector investments covered both urban and underserved regions of Pakistan. More than 60 percent of the initiatives were carried out in Sindh and Punjab, while the remaining efforts targeted areas such as Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Education initiatives received an investment of approximately Rs3 billion, benefiting 436,000 individuals through school construction, scholarships, and digital and vocational training programs. Healthcare projects received Rs2.3 billion, with a focus on maternal health, primary care, and mental health awareness, reaching over 25 million people.
Renewable energy solutions, including off-grid solar projects and energy efficiency initiatives, were supported with Rs2.6 billion. Meanwhile, Rs1.7 billion was allocated to programs aimed at income generation, food security, and social protection for marginalized communities.
Vice President OICCI Syed Ali Akbar highlighted that private sector support is crucial in meeting the growing social needs of the country. He expressed pride in member companies for setting high benchmarks in sustainable business practices.
OICCI Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem noted that the CSR Report details contributions made in collaboration with over 280 social organizations across Pakistan. He encouraged other businesses and industries to play their role in addressing socio-economic challenges and fostering sustainable development.
