The Sindh government has announced a shift in funding to completely transform Karachi’s public transport system, highlighting the inclusion of additional buses, electric taxis, and scooters in the budget for the fiscal year 202526. Through this initiative, the authorities are prepared to enhance environmentally friendly and affordable travel options for citizens across the province.

In a key meeting chaired by Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, key figures from the Department of Transport and Mass Transit, including Secretary Asad Zaman and MD of Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kamal Deo, discussed revolutionary projects. The meeting included a detailed assessment of existing initiatives such as the People’s Bus Service and the deployment of electric scooters.

To support the increasing initiative of electric vehicles, the discussion highlighted the need to establish strategically placed charging stations throughout the city. This infrastructure will facilitate the smooth operation of electric vehicles, confirming the government’s commitment to sustainable transport solutions.

Minister Memon received a full briefing on the current strategies for the fiscal year 202425 and had detailed discussions on proposed projects for the coming year. He was informed about the involvement of private investors in launching new bus services through publicprivate partnerships, which is expected to further strengthen the transport network.

A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement regarding the Jam Sadiq Bridge of the Yellow Line BRT, which is largely complete. The bridge is expected to open this month, marking a significant milestone in the city’s transit infrastructure. Additionally, the minister called for immediate progress on the Red Line BRT to improve connectivity.

The government is committed to providing a modern, environmentally friendly transport system. Minister Memon emphasized continuous efforts to introduce more buses, particularly with plans to launch doubledecker buses for Karachi. Successful projects like EV buses and the expansion of the People’s Bus Service continue to ensure comprehensive access to modern transport for every citizen of Sindh.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to improve urban traffic and enhance transport infrastructure, ultimately elevating the quality of public transit in Karachi and beyond.
