In a significant move to address the growing infrastructure challenges of Karachi, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved more than 10 billion rupees for the city’s development projects. This decision was made during a high-level meeting at the Chief Minister’s House today, aimed at reducing traffic congestion, improving road conditions, and enhancing the public transport system.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Local Government, the Minister of Planning and Development, the Mayor of Karachi, and other senior officials. The Chief Minister emphasized the need for integrated planning to meet the growing population and increasing traffic demands of Karachi. Stressing the importance of transparency and quality, he warned against delays and substandard work.
Projects discussed included the construction of a 636-meter flyover at North Karachi Powerhouse Chowrangi, valued at 2.5 billion rupees. This structure is expected to streamline traffic flow, with 80 percent of vehicles using this elevated route while local traffic operates on service roads.
Additionally, the K4 Chowrangi Flyover project, costing 2.377 billion rupees, aims to reduce traffic load towards Surjani Town. The restoration of Marine Drive Road, with a budget of 600 million rupees, will focus on improving roads and drainage to prevent urban flooding.
The meeting also reviewed the development of an alternative corridor from Malir Court to Murtaza Chowrangi, designed to divert traffic and reduce pressure on residential areas. Furthermore, the reconstruction of Mehrwanza Hospital Road, costing 660 million rupees, will improve access to key installations and medical facilities.
Other notable projects include the road upgrade from Urdu Chowk to Shahra-e-Orangi, the development of Mehran/Pajero Road, and the improvement of Shahra-e-Faisal. The Chief Minister reiterated the importance of these projects in boosting Karachi’s economic activities and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
The Government of Sindh is committed to addressing Karachi’s infrastructure issues through sustainable development and effective monitoring, ensuring that benefits directly reach the city’s residents.
