Call to ensure proper representation of persons with disabilities

Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nehal Hashmi attended a ceremony held in honour of Javed Raees, who received a civil award, as the chief guest.

In his address, the governor said that Javed Raees is a widely respected personality. He added that the community to which he belongs is dignified, talented, and courageous. He further stated that if there is any deficiency, it does not lie within such individuals but within societal thinking and attitudes.

He said that there was a need to review language and patterns of thought. Words and expressions used in the past should now be replaced with attitudes based on respect, dignity, and inclusion, which are an essential requirement of the time.

The governor stated that persons with disabilities have proven their abilities through continuous struggle, hard work, and determination. He further said that the gathering had been organized to pay tribute to Javed Raees for his services, determination, and remarkable contributions.

He further said that it was the responsibility of political parties and all institutions to ensure proper representation of persons with disabilities in assemblies and decision-making processes. He added that if equal opportunities were provided, they could play a significant role in society through their abilities.

Hashmi further stated that it was a welcome development that such services had finally been recognized, stating that the present government had acknowledged the abilities of persons with disabilities and has honored Javed Raees with a civil award in recognition of his services.
