AAC condemns Indian repression in IIOJK

Srinagar, September 30, 2021 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Awami Action Committee (AAC), headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has condemned the increasing intimidation of the people and continued violation of their basic civil and human rights by Indian troops in the territory.

The AAC in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the implementation of new laws being applied day in and out disempowering the people and meant to create a sense of fear and insecurity among them is very worrying. “Arrest of youth continues unabated in the name of security and law and order. While the condition of hundreds of prisoners languishing in jails and detention centres is painful,” it said.

The statement said, the AAC Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, continues to be under illegal and arbitrary house detention since August 2019, with a posse of armed men and vehicles permanently stationed outside his house. “Being the Mirwaiz his illegal detention prevents him even from performing the basic duties the key religious institution he represents demands of him, which is highly condemnable. This unwarranted and direct interference in the religious affairs of the people of IIOJK causes deep anger among people but due to severe repression they cannot even express it,” it added.

The AAC appealed to all religious leaders and organisations across India and the world to raise their voice in support of the release of the Mirwaiz so that he can resume his religious, social and political activities. The statement said as per media reports and family sources, the condition of most of the political prisoners in jails across India and IIOJK including Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam and Aasiya Andrabi is going from bad to worse as they are suffering from various ailments due to continued incarceration and lack of proper medical care.

It urged the United Nations and world human rights organisations to break their silence and call for an end to the gross human rights violations in IIOJK, release of all political prisoners and restoration of all basic human and civil rights in the territory. The AAC said it is incumbent upon the UN to play its role in the peaceful resolution of the longstanding Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people for ensuring permanent peace in the region.
