KARACHI: Administrator Karachi, Sindh government’s Spokesperson and CM Advisor on Law Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday visited the site of the fire at the super store on Shaheed Millat Road Jail Chowrangi.
The Administrator passed directives for fire brigade, rescue unit and other concerned agencies. Also present on the occasion were Municipal Commissioner Syed Afzal Zaidi, Deputy Commissioner East Tariq, Senior Director Municipal Services Mazhar Khan and officers of Fire Brigade Department.
Barrister Murtaza Wahab while talking to media said that the fire in the building has been brought under control but there are problems due to continuous smoke coming out of the building. He said that the entire building has been evacuated, all the people have been rescued from the 170 flats in the building.
One person was killed and another was injured, according to reports. The fire broke out in the basement of the superstore and the fire brigade reached immediately after receiving the report. Eight fire tenders, two firearms, two bows, Rescue 1122, members of law enforcement agencies were engaged in putting out the fire.
The Administrator said that the fire brigade personnel would be present here till the situation was brought under control. Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that the fire in the basement could have caused huge loss of life and property if it had not been brought under control in time.
He said that there is an ambulance service of 1122 and all arrangements have been made to deal with any emergency. The Administrator Karachi said that the residents of the building and the people of the area are cooperating fully and it is hoped that the situation will be brought under control soon.
He inspected the building in detail and also met the occupants of the building. The Administrator Karachi appreciated the performance of the fire brigade and said that our firefighters protect the lives and property of the citizens at the risk of their lives which is a duty as well as a service to the people.
