Secretary of Environment, Agha Shah Nawaz, has directed the plastic bag industries to adopt alternatives or prepare for a crackdown. A meeting was held to discuss the implementation of a complete ban, which included Director General SEPA Waqar Hussain Phulpoto and Director Natural Resources Imran Sabir.

Agha Shah Nawaz appealed for cooperation from all stakeholders. He stated that the police, DCs, mayors, and other institutions are fully on board, and any violation of the law will not be tolerated. The police will be instructed to clarify the distinctions between different types of shoppers, and committees will be formed at the district level.

The industrial delegation expressed concern that it might not be possible to clear stock within two months, which could harm the industries. They also emphasized the need for the police to clarify the distinctions between types of shoppers.

Agha Shah Nawaz announced that no leniency will be given after June 15, and the crackdown will begin with major markets. He further stated that industries will be visited next week for further consultation.

The Secretary of Environment made it clear that breaking the law will not be allowed, but industries will be facilitated within the scope of the regulations.
