Cairo (UNA-OIC) � Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Yousef bin Ahmed Al-Othaimeen met Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul-Gheit at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on Tuesday.
The two leaders discussed the bilateral relations between the OIC and the Arab League and ways to develop them further. They also discussed the aspects of cooperation on common issues, especially the issues of combating terrorism and extremism as well as the joint work on the Palestinian cause through coordination with regard to collective action on the question of Jerusalem in international forums.
The OIC chief affirmed the importance of working with the Arab League due to its weight in the Organization, where the Arab countries constitute a third of the OIC member states.
The Arab League secretary general expressed his interest and keenness to strengthen cooperation with the OIC in all areas through the applicable mechanisms. He also expressed the desire to proceed with further consultations and contacts between the two bodies.
