Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, met with US President Donald J. Trump at the White House for a luncheon meeting in the Cabinet Room, followed by a visit to the Oval Office, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday.

President Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Senator Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, the US Special Representative for Middle Eastern Affairs. Field Marshal Asim Munir was joined by Pakistan’s National Security Advisor, signaling the strategic depth of the discussions.

During the extended two-hour meeting, Field Marshal Asim Munir conveyed the appreciation of the Pakistani government and people for President Trump’s pivotal role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India during a recent regional crisis. He praised Trump’s statesmanship and ability to navigate complex global challenges.

In response, President Trump commended Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and highlighted the strong counter-terrorism cooperation between the two nations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in combating terrorism.

The dialogue also explored potential areas for deepening bilateral ties, including trade, economic development, artificial intelligence, energy, cryptocurrency, emerging technologies, and the mining sector. President Trump expressed strong interest in establishing a long-term trade partnership based on shared strategic interests.

Regional security issues also featured prominently in the discussion.

The two leaders exchanged detailed views on the escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, stressing the urgent need for a peaceful resolution. President Trump lauded Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership during a time of shifting regional dynamics and complex geopolitical developments.

In a gesture reflecting the strength of bilateral relations, Asim Munir extended an official invitation to President Trump to visit Pakistan, which the latter welcomed, expressing interest in scheduling it at a mutually convenient time.

The meeting, which was originally scheduled for one hour, extended well beyond expectations, signaling a renewed warmth in US-Pakistan relations and a shared vision for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
