ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday approved the appointment of noted lawyer Ashtar Ausaf Ali as the Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP).
The slot of AGP was vacant from April 9, after the resignation of Khalid Jawed Khan. Ashtar Ausaf Ali had served as Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on Law and Justice during 2015-16. He had also been the AGP during the tenure of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
Ashtar Ausaf Ali served as Advocate General of Punjab twice, from 1998 to 1999 and 2012 to 2013. He was awarded Sitara-i-Imtiaz in 2018.
