In a significant blow to illegal fuel trade networks, the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement in Karachi has impounded more than 42,200 litres of smuggled Iranian diesel, with an estimated value exceeding Rs12 million, during a pre-dawn raid along the Northern Bypass on Friday.
The enforcement action was initiated based on reliable intelligence concerning the illicit storage and distribution of contraband fuel, according to Customs officials. Acting on the tip-off, specialized teams supervised by senior officers uncovered the illegal diesel concealed within multiple hidden tanks and makeshift storage units.
The confiscated petroleum product has been secured and moved to the Caspian State Warehouse located in Korangi for safekeeping while legal proceedings are initiated.
A representative for the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) stated that the successful raid highlights the department’s unwavering commitment to dismantling smuggling operations. These illicit activities cause substantial financial damage to the national treasury and disrupt legitimate commercial enterprises.
The FBR reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against smuggling, vowing to persist with stringent enforcement measures across the country to protect lawful commerce and safeguard national revenue from the detrimental effects of the illegal trade.
