Awami Tehreek leaders demand distribution of ration on emergency basis

LARKANA:Awami Tehreek on Friday demanded of the Sindh government to ensure distribution of ration on emergency basis among the deserving people as millions of daily wage labourers have been badly affected in entire Sindh due to lockdown.

Sindh government has announced to distribute two million bags as relief for the labourers and poor, but it has still not reached the deserving people, said Central Organizer of Awami Tahreek Lal Jarwar and other party leaders Mehran Sindhi, Wasand Thari, Sarwar Jatoi and Sajid Mahesar in a statement.

They said: “The Sindh government must ensure distribution of ration on emergency basis among the deserving people. Unfortunately past character of Sindh government is very bad as funds were also collected after 2010-2011 mega floods for flood affected people, but they were misused because of massive corruption and the affected people are still without any assistance.”

“If ration bags are again distributed through MNAs, MPAs, municipal authorities, town committees and union council chairmen, then same previous situation will be repeated which will ruin the poor masses.” They said it was also very unfortunate that Benazir Income Support Program funds were also misused which were primarily for poverty-stricken women but wives of government officers were included as bonafide beneficiaries.”

They said ration bags be distributed in a very transparent manner forthwith so that no poor was left behind. They further demanded that prices of daily commodities must be reduced for which both the federal and provincial governments should take proper actions against profiteers and hoarders and their regular supply should also be ensured. They said negligence at Taftan border and airports had resulted in surfacing of many coronavirus cases for which a judicial commission should be constituted to probe who committed the blunder and who brought them here.
