Pakistan is keen to import high-quality Ethiopian cotton to strengthen its textile production, a key outcome of a new accord between the two nations aimed at enhancing agricultural ties for food security and economic growth.
The agreement was solidified during a meeting in Islamabad between Rana Tanveer Hussain, the Minister for National Food Security and Research, and Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula today.
Minister Hussain proposed the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Livestock. This initiative aims to institutionalize dialogue and formalize the partnership between the two countries in these vital sectors.
The minister also expressed support for Ethiopian cooperation in aligning sanitary and phytosanitary standards. This alignment is expected to unlock greater potential for agricultural trade by streamlining regulations and ensuring product quality.
Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that importing Ethiopian cotton would help diversify Pakistan”s agricultural imports and provide a significant boost to its textile industry.
In his remarks, Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula commended Pakistan”s vision and acknowledged the necessity for deeper collaboration in the agriculture sector to achieve mutual benefits.
