Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, has called for immediate and effective relief and rehabilitation measures in response to the ongoing devastation caused by rains in Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to a press release from the Media Cell Bilawal House here today, the chairman highlighted the damage to the properties of numerous citizens resulting from rains and landslides. He stressed the necessity for both the federal government and the government of Gilgit-Baltistan to act promptly to aid those affected.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the restoration of essential services, including internet, mobile connectivity, and electricity, particularly in the districts of Ghizer and Ghanche. He also urged the authorities to expedite the reopening of roads obstructed by landslides.
Addressing broader concerns, Bilawal noted the unpredictable weather patterns impacting Gilgit-Baltistan and the rest of Pakistan due to climate change. He pointed out the dual threats of glacier melting and glacial lake bursts in the north, alongside severe droughts in the country”s southern regions.
Underlining the urgency, Bilawal underscored the government”s duty to act swiftly and adhere to strict timelines to mitigate further loss and suffering for the affected populations.
