Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former Foreign Minister of Pakistan and Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), leading a high-level parliamentary delegation, meet with members of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee. The discussions centered around regional peace, the escalating crisis in South Asia, and prospects for enhancing US-Pakistan relations.
During the meeting, Bilawal raised alarms over India’s recent aggressive maneuvers, including military strikes targeting civilians, which he warned could severely undermine regional stability. He condemned India’s unilateral decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, labeling it a blatant breach of international law that jeopardizes the lives of millions in Pakistan. This move, he asserted, sets a dangerous precedent for the potential weaponization of essential resources.
Furthermore, Bilawal drew attention to the worsening humanitarian situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). He reiterated Pakistan”s enduring stance that the people of IIOJK deserve their globally acknowledged right to self-determination. Commending the U.S. for its historical role in promoting de-escalation between India and Pakistan, he reaffirmed Pakistan”s dedication to achieving peace through diplomatic means.
The Pakistani delegation also underscored the need for bolstering trade and economic ties between Pakistan and the United States. Members of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee expressed their appreciation for the delegation”s perspectives and reiterated their robust support for Pakistan”s government and its people.
