BJP leaders upload fake Lal Chowk photo to praise PM Modi

Srinagar, August 16, 2020 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, while increased deployments and curbs yet again marked India’s Independence Day on August 15, a BJP MP tweeted an old and doctored photo of the Srinagar’s commercial hub, Lal Chowk claiming that Indian flag was hoisted on the famous clock-tower.

BJP MP from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal shared an image on twitter that showed the Indian flag hoisted on top of the clock tower in Lal Chowk. Namgyal wrote, “Lal Chowk Srinagar which had remained as symbol of AntiIndia campaign by dynast politicians and Jihadist forces, has now become Crown of Nationalism.” He added, “Modi hai to mumkin hai, Thanks my countrymen for electing Narendra Modi and Amit Shah”.

Following Namgyal, another BJP leader, Kapil Mishra too posted the same doctored picture late Saturday evening. Mishra tweeted the image with a claim which read, “Tiranga at Lal Chowk”. However, as per media reports, the picture shared by the BJP MP and the other party leader is fake.

They said that the original image was uploaded in August 2010 by freelance journalist Mubasshir Mushtaq in his story titled ‘Paradise Lost?’ The photo tweeted by the BJP leaders was the same but was without an Indian flag on the tower. Besides, the buildings in the photo have changed long ago. The media reports concluded that clearly, an old, photo shopped image is being used to claim that the Indian flag is flying atop the clock tower in Srinagar’s Lal Chowk.
