Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today called for unified efforts from all stakeholders to unlock the immense potential of Pakistan’s maritime sector, describing the blue economy as the “new frontier” for national prosperity and sustainable development.
Speaking at the International Maritime Expo and Conference in Islamabad on Monday evening, the Prime Minister emphasized that Pakistan’s vast maritime assets-including over 1,000 kilometers of coastline, three major seaports, and a strategic position along global maritime corridors-place the country in an ideal position to become a regional hub for maritime trade and connectivity.
He urged both public and private sector actors to join hands with the government to fully capitalize on the opportunities presented by the blue economy, which he said has the capacity to generate wealth, stimulate commerce, uplift coastal communities, and drive longterm economic growth.
‘Pakistan’s maritime domain is brimming with untapped potential. We must ensure its optimal utilization for national development and enhanced regional cooperation,’ the Prime Minister said.
Highlighting the country’s commitment to peace and stability in maritime affairs, Shehbaz Sharif pointed to the successful AMAN naval exercise, which saw participation from 60 countries, as a symbol of Pakistan’s dedication to international maritime norms and regional harmony.
He also praised the Pakistan Navy for its exceptional professionalism and unflinching dedication to safeguarding national interests. ‘Our Naval Force has consistently exemplified courage, skill, and commitment. The nation salutes its unwavering service,’ he added.
The conference brought together maritime experts, defense officials, and international delegates to explore the transformative role of the blue economy in shaping a prosperous future for Pakistan and the broader region.
