Nazim, Islami Jamiat Tulaba-IJT, Balochistan, Bahadur Khan Kakar on Thursday called on the authorities to withdraw ban on political activities in educational institutions of the province.

Addressing a press conference at Quetta Press Club, he said that ban imposed on political activities in educational institutions by Colleges, Higher and Technical Education Department, Balochistan was condemnable, adding that students organizations were not only creating political consciousness but also highlighting problems of the students. He said ban imposed by Colleges, Higher and Technical Education Department Balochistan in the light of judgement of Balochistan High Court was the violation of Article-17 of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

He said educational institutions served as nursery for democracy wherein young leaders were produced, adding that the said ban meant to weaken that democratic process. He said that students organizations had always played an active role for highlighting the issues of students and its redressal and the said ban on students organizations was tantamount to pressing those demands.

He remarked, ‘We would like to make it clear that ban on political activities in the educational institutions of the province will not be accepted and against the said unconstitutional action, all legal and democratic ways will be adopted’. He said if the said notification was not withdrawn, IJT would would launch ‘awakening student movement’ across the province, adding that future course of action for launching decisive movement against that unconstitutional and illegal step would be devised after taking into confidence all students organizations of the province.
