The campaign to send postcards to the US president regarding clemency appeal for release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui is in full swing in Karachi.

According to a statement issued by Aafia Movement today, citizens of different districts of the megacity in a large number are sending postcards on daily basis. This campaign is going on in whole world and peace loving citizens are sending letters, postcards and emails appealing to the US president to release Aafia Siddiqui on clemency grounds.

In Karachi citizens have welcomed the efforts of the government for release of Aafia and hope that she would be released soon.

The matter of a standard postcard is follows: Dear Mr. President; Please sign, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s petition for Clemency C310439. As you know, she is a Pakistani Citizen wrongfully accused and unjustly incarcerated on faulty intelligence. We respectfully appeal to you to let her come home. She is deeply traumatized and needs urgent medical care. HER LIFE IS IN DANGER! This is now a matter of great concern for many people around the world; her release would be a significant step towards healing and reconciliation promoting peace, justice and human rights.

It may be noted that the lawyer of Dr Aafia, Clive Smith on September 4, filed a clemency petition of 131pages, with the Pardon Attorney of the US Department of Justice.

However, despite this, Aafia Siddiqui consistently takes the position that her release is in the hands of God, and it will only happen when it is the will of God: ‘God is in charge. Nobody knows. And when God has written, believe me, he has written for me to come out of prison I am going to come out. If he has the written for it — hey, I was kept in secret prison for years, people thought I was dead, whatever. So, it was written for me so it happened. I am content thanks to Allah.’ It is time for us all to recognize that this time has come.
