Alleged robber killed, other injured by citizen

KARACHI: An alleged robber was killed and one other injured by a daring citizen in North Karachi area of the city on Thursday. According to a police source, two robbers intercepted a citizen in street in North Karachi’s Sector 5C and tried to loot him. The citizen, who was carrying a licensed weapon, opened firing on the robbers. As a result, a robber was killed on the spot, while his accomplice, Salman, sustained bullet injuries. The body and injured were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities and treatment, respectively.

Woman commits self-immolation

KARACHI: A woman committed self-immolation over a domestic dispute in Baldia town area of the city on Wednesday. According to rescue sources, a 32-year-old woman, Tahira, daughter of Rasheed, set herself on fire in Baldia’s Gulshan-e-Mazdoor area. As a result, she received severe burn injuries and died. The cause behind the incident was stated to be a domestic dispute. The body was sent to Civil Hospital Karachi for an autopsy.

Sports: Hockey: PHF Congress to meet today in Islamabad

Karachi: The 53rd meeting of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Congress will be held today (Thursday) in Islamabad. The meeting was initially scheduled to be held on December 30 at Hotel One in Sukkur. But PHF announced that “due to prevailing and unavoidable circumstances, it has been decided to hold the meeting at Crown Plaza Hotel Islamabad.” The venue of Sukkur was initially picked because of the 64th National Hockey Championship held in the interior Sindh city. According to sources, some board members were reluctant to travel to Sukkur for the meeting. However, there was no official response to this query.

Sports: Cricket: National Disabled T20 first phase final today

Karachi: Multan will face host Karachi team today (Thursday) in the final of the first phase of 6th National Disabled T-20 Championship here at Rashid Latif Cricket Academy Ground in Gulberg. Former test cricketer Iqbal Qasim will be the chief guest while Patron PDCA Saleem Karim will preside over the closing ceremony. Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA) is organizing the tournament. Another eight teams will play in the second phase of the national tournament in mid February in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. NICVD sets up another chest pain unit in city

KARACHI: Executive Director, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) Prof Nadeem Qamar on Wednesday inaugurated the 6th chest pain unit near I.I. Chundrigar, Karachi, to facilitate patients with chest pain and other cardiac emergencies. The unit was established in collaboration with the Sindh Government and Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) at Railway road, opposite the Miskeen Gali near I.I. Chundrigar Road. Prof Nadeem Qamar said after units at Gulshan Chowrangi Flyover, Gulbai Flyover, Malir Halt Flyover, Qayumabad Chowrangi Flyover, Nagan Chowrangi Flyover, NICVD has proudly started its one more chest pain unit at Railway Road to provide state-of-the-art cardiac treatment to citizens.
