Chief Secretary ensures foolproof security during polls, after announcement of election results

Karachi, July 23, 2018 (PPI-OT): Chief Secretary Sindh Major Retired Azam Suleman Khan has said that foolproof security will be ensured during polls and also after announcement of the results of the elections. This he said in an important meeting to review arrangements made for general elections. The meeting discussed various agendas including security plan, missing facilities, installation of CCTV cameras at sensitive polling stations, lady searchers, emergency plan for hospitals and transportation plan. The meeting was attended by the IG Sindh Amjad Javed Salemi, Provincial Election Commissioner, Home Secretary, Secretary Information Qasi Shahid Parvez, representatives of law enforcing agencies while all divisional commissioners have participated in the meeting via video link.

The Chief Secretary stated that free, fair and peaceful election is top most priority of the provincial government. Representative of NRTC in his briefing said that the installation of CCTV at sensitive poling stations has been completed while installation at few improvised polling stations will also be completed today. Chief Secretary Sindh stated that the process of Installation of 21000 CCTV cameras will be completed today at 5673 sensitive polling stations of the province. ” All missing facilities have been provided successfully and generators and UPS’s will be provided today” added the Chief Secretary.

The IG Sindh Amjad Javed Salemi briefed the meeting regarding pre and post election security arrangements and transportation plan. IG Sindh informed the meeting that police Rangers and other law enforcement agencies have enhanced close coordination and Information sharing in order to avoid any unwanted situation.

The Chief Secretary directed IG Sindh to take stern action against the elements involved in aerial firing and firework after announcements of the result. The Chief Secretary further stated that all the International and National Observers and Media personnel should follow code of the conduct and SOP issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan. The CS also directed Health, Information and other important departments to remain open during Election Day and make sure the presence of their staff.

Earlier, all Divisional Commissioners have briefed the meeting regarding provision of missing facilities, presence of polling staff and other issues related to General elections. The CS directed all commissioners and DIGs to remain in field and visit polling stations and ensure foolproof arrangements for GE.

The CS emphasized on presence of all polling staff and said strict disciplinary action will be taken against the employees remaining absent from election duties. The Chief Secretary Sindh also directed the Home Secretary to ensure that all mobile towers vans to reach at remote areas of the province to ensure uninterrupted network supply. The Chief Secretary said that he has a great team and he is optimist that the whole process of general election will be peacefully and they are working hard for great national cause.
