Karachi, July 03, 2018 (PPI-OT): The all stormy and sewerage nallah/ drains in Karachi must be got cleaned without further delay in view of Monsoon – 2018 , as the funds have been released to KMC and DMCs, for the said task, no negligence, would be tolerable to this effect, the Chief Secretary Sindh Maj. Retd Azam Suleman Khan expressed these instructions while presiding a meeting regarding preparedness and contingency planning for Monsoon season – 2018.
The Chief Secretary categorically noted that the fool proof arrangements to combat monsoon – 2018 must be carried out devotedly under the coordinated efforts of Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB), Divisional /District Administration and all Municipal Authorities including Cantonment Boards, DHA and all other Civic Agencies, Chief Secretary Sindh Maj. Rtd. Azam Suleman Khan expressed these views while presiding a high level meeting regarding strategic line of action to combat Monsoon-2018, held in Sindh Secretariat this afternoon, which was also attended by the Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar, and other senior officers.
The Chief Secretary stressed the need to do the needful to eradicate the post-rain difficulties, for saving the human lives properties and cattle, in the larger national interest. He maintained that all Deputy Commissioners being the focal persons of their districts remain actively coordinated with all the stake-holders. Chief Secretary emphasized upon Mayor and Commissioner Karachi to ensure the acute safety arrangements for Karachi in collaboration with PDMA, and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board.
He categorically noted that all Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners ensure safety arrangements at their level, while cleanliness of storm/sewerage water, and disposal of solid waste should also be accorded in accordance with rules and regulation of Local Bodies and SSWMB, including other responsible institutions.
Mayor KMC, said that all necessary arrangement have been prepared for cleaning of Nallahs, and all other places, while we feel difficulty in removing the garbage from Nallahs where number of cables are disturbing owned by KE, which has been requested to remove them, but all in vein.
Maj. Rtd. Azam Suleman Khan also advised to keep in view the Gen-Election 2018, are being conducted in monsoon era. SMBR, Mayar KMC, Commissioner Karachi and other senior officers also briefed. Secretary Local Government Khalid Hyder Shah briefed about release of funds. Chief Secretary noted that an other meeting on this matter will be arranged.
It may be mentioned that KMC and all DMCs have been furnished the funds with the specific reference of Monsoon-2018, thus C.S, instructed to start cleanliness of Nallah, henceforth. He ordered that met office must be kept in touch carefully, as prediction regarding Karachi should be strictly followed. He instructed that the staff of K-Electric would perform their duties round the clock during the rain emergency.
Maj. Rtd. Azam Suleman also directed the Commissioner Karachi to hold meetings, twice a week of all concerned departments regarding Monsson-2018 and cleanliness of all big and small nallah, in addition to immediate removal of encroachment from the Nallahs. C.S. also directed the Commissioner Karachi that machinery and equipment including resource mobilization must be kept ready, with identification, for use as and when required.
