China strongly opposes India’s latest ban on 118 mobile apps

Beijing, September 04, 2020 (PPI-OT): China has strongly opposed India banning Chinese mobile apps, saying the actions violate the legal interests of Chinese investors and services providers. Spokesman of China’s commerce ministry, Gao Feng, talking to media, asked India to correct its wrong practices. He added, “The Indian side abused the concept of “national security” and adopted discriminatory restrictive measures against Chinese companies, violating relevant World Trade Organisation rules”.

At a separate Chinese Foreign Ministry briefing, spokesperson Hua Chunying, in her reaction to the ban on Chinese apps, said, “By banning these hi-tech, easy-to-use and popular apps, the Indian side is sacrificing first and foremost the rights and interests of the Indian users, and damaging those of Chinese companies. Therefore, no one gains from such an action.”

India has banned another 118 mostly Chinese mobile apps including Tencent Holdings Ltd’s popular videogame PUBG, citing data security concerns. The list of 118 mostly Chinese apps also includes applications from Baidu and Xiaomi’s ShareSave. The ban was announced a day after a senior Indian official said that troops were deployed on four strategic hilltops after what Delhi called an attempted Chinese incursion at South Bank of the Pangong Lake in eastern Ladakh.
