(City): Medics continue protest against CMCH chief

Larkana:The row between paramedics and Dr Ershad Hussain Kazmi, Dr Ershad Hussain Kazmi (MS), Chandka Medical College Hospital (CMCH), continued on the third consecutive day and the paramedics association threatened to spread their protest across Sindh from Monday.

The protesters have been boycotting all OPDs of the 1500-bed capacity hospital since three days which has forced the poor patients to go to private medical centers and clinics costing them extra to get treatment of their various ailments. Their central chairman Abdul Rahman Shar also participated in the protest. Their leaders Zamir Sangi, Munwar Mangi, Jabbar Narejo and others said while addressing the participants that if Dr. Kazmi is not removed by Sindh government then CMCH OPDs will be completely locked and paralyzed from Monday onwards.

Meanwhile, Secretary, Health Department, Government of Sindh, has also constituted a committee to probe into the matters of CMCH headed by the Special Secretary Development Syed Noor Muhammad Shah having four other members including Dadlo Zuhrani, additional secretary (general) health department, Director Health Larkana, Imadad Ali Junejo, Section Officer and representative of deputy commissioner, Larkana. The Terms of Reference (ToRs) of the committee include “to probe into the administrative and financial issues of the hospital, to probe into the grievances and record of the striking employees, to submit a report of the overall performance of CMCH and submit a report within 15 days.

On the other hand, CMCH MS has relieved 12 members of striking paramedics association for boycotting government duties violating court orders. They include Allah Bux Sangi x-ray technician, Aftab Chandio nursing orderly, Ghulam Mustafa Kalhoro photographer, Munwar Mangi technician, Ghulam Hussain Langah lab technician, Peer Muhammad Mashori OT technician, Jabbar Narejo dresser, Noor Muhammad Mastoi chowkidar, Ravi Kumar sanitary worker, Ali Nawaz Narejo chowkidar, Mushtaque alias Khadim Sargani lab technician and Mukesh sanitary worker. CMCH Accounts officer Fida Hussain Hulion was already transferred to Umarkot who was considered the root cause of all the evils as he got himself promoted to BPS-17 by changing his cadre illegally and in open violation of apex court orders as he was appointed in BPS-5.

Dr. Kazmi while talking to this scribe Saturday said that forensic audit of the last five years CMCH budget utilization should be carried out to ascertain the facts as he has been posted seven months ago. He said Khadim Sargani was removed over an alleged medicines theft scandal.

He said operation theaters are sold on a monthly extortion basis and CMCH absconding employees are working in Karachi’s private hospitals but drawing salaries from CMCH which cannot be allowed. He said mafias have ruined this largest hospital which need to be curbed to improve its performance. He said blackmailing cannot be accepted and those who are involved in misuse of powers and their jobs description will be taken to task at all costs. He asked when a constitutional petition has already been filed in the Sindh High Court, Larkana, against my posting then why the paramedics have resorted to create unrest and chaos before its hearing?

He said CMCH is on the path of progress, development and Sindh government is determined to make it a fully professional and highly improved hospital of rural Sindh for the betterment of rural patients that arrive here from far flung and remote areas of more than 12 districts, parts of Balochistan and Punjab to get specialized medical treatment and operations.
