Srinagar, August 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the communication blackout continues on the third consecutive day, today, as the authorities continue to snap internet and telephone links and impose strict restrictions on media. The Indian government had snapped television, telephone and internet links to prevent demonstrations against its decision of revoking Article 370 of the Indian Constitution that granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
India had revoked Article 370 on Monday. Before that, the occupation authorities had clamped an unprecedented communications blackout on the territory and arrested many political leaders. Almost all resistance leaders, including Syed Ali Gilani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, have been put under house arrest or in jails.
Meanwhile, the Indian authorities continue to clamp curfew and other restrictions across occupied Kashmir, converting it into a military garrison by deploying Indian troops and police personnel in every nook and corner of the territory.
The authorities have also ordered closure of all educational institutions. With Internet services and telephone lines snapped across occupied Kashmir, there is no contact of the external world with the residents of the territory. Local newspaper even failed to update their online editions. Majority of newspapers could also not be printed due to curfew and other restrictions.
While Director General Police Kashmir, Dilbagh Singh, claimed that the situation was totally peaceful in the Kashmir valley, the Reuters quoting an unidentified police officer reported that the Indian forces’ personnel fired teargas shells and pellets in response to sporadic protests on Monday in Srinagar. On the other hand, shopkeepers said that they were running out of stock after days of panic buying.
