Concern expressed over detainees’ plight in Udhumpur Jail

Srinagar, May 31, 2018 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (JKML) has expressed serious concern over the miserable plight of the Kashmiri political detainees languishing in Udhampur Jail in Jammu. A JKML spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that the political detainees were being deprived of basic facilities including the medical care even in the holy month of Ramadan. He said that due to non-availability of medical facilities the health of detainees was deteriorating with each passing day.

He said Hurriyat leaders and activists including Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Feroz Ahmed Dar and Bashir Ahmed Dar were the fresh example being tortured in the jail by keeping them with other habitual criminals. He deplored that in the holy month of Ramadan and in the hot weather, they are being subjected to mental torture. He said that such behaviour had raised several questions over the so-called largest democracy of India.

The spokesman said that it was not only the story of Udhampur jail but Kashmiri political prisoners were harassed and torture in all the jails of the territory. He appealed to the international human rights organizations to take notice of the plight of all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists and use their influence for the release of these detainees.
