Sheikh Abdul Mateen in a statement issued in Islamabad said thousands of Hurriyat leaders and activists are languishing in various prisons of IIOJK and India for opposing Indian illegal occupation of their homeland. He said by prolonging their detention, they are being pushed to the death like senior Hurriyat leaders, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai and Altaf Ahmad Shah, who died in Indian captivity.

He said that the APHC Chairman, Masarrat Alam Butt, and other Hurriyat leaders and activists including Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Ayaz Muhammad Akbar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Peer Saifullah, Molvi Bashir Ahmad, Merajuddin Kalwal, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Naheeda Nasreen, Fehmeeda Sofi, Mushtaq-ul-Islam, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Ghulam Qadir Butt, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Muhammad Ayub Mir, Muhammad Ayub Dar, Mahmood Topiwala, Muhammad Yousuf Mir, Showkat Hakeem, Mirajuddin Nanda, Muhammad Rafiq Ganai and Hayat Ahmed Butt were facing threat to their lives due to continued illegal detention. He said these detainees are denied basic facilities including medical care and hygienic food in jails.

Sheikh Abdul Mateen said the Narendra Modi-led fascist Indian government has broken all records of brutalities on the freedom-loving people of IIOJK. He said killings, arrests, torture, destruction of properties and other brutalities by Indian troops and police have become a routine matter in the occupied territory. He appealed to the international community to take cognizance of the Indian atrocities on the Kashmiris and fulfill its obligations regarding settlement of the Kashmir dispute for ensuring durable peace in the region.
