Corona may attack 70 percent population: Moot told

KARACHI:Dean Faculty of Life Sciences, Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi (MAJU) Prof Dr Kamran Azim has said that in February this year, Mark Lipstich a professor of epidemiologist, at Harvard University in the United States had revealed that Corona virus disease could attack 70% of the world’s population. Similarly an article published in the leading British newspaper The Guardian in February also claimed that 60% of the world’s population could be infected with corona virus.

 

Speaking at Faculty Lounge last evening, he dismissed the impression that a large number of deaths were being reported as a result of coronavirus infection, adding in fact the death from corona virus infection is less than 1%, according to World Health Organisation (WHO) while the number of deaths by deadly diseases such as typhoid and dengue reaches upto 50%.

 

He said that as compared to India, United States, Germany, France and other European countries, the number of people infected with coronavirus in Muslim countries is lower because cleanliness is considered half faith in our religion of Islam. Dr Kamran said that in the current situation, it is important to use sanitizer regularly and to wear mask compulsorily in order to prevent from the spread of coronavirus disease.
