ISLAMABAD:A local court in Islamabad on Saturday rejected a plea challenging the Nikah of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran with Bushra Bibi in iddat.
The court declared that the plea was “inadmissible” and fell outside its jurisdiction, as it entailed the case of Nikah during iddat, which is the period of waiting observed by Muslim women following the divorce or the death of their spouse.
The reserved verdict on the plea was announced by Senior Civil Judge, Islamabad Nasrum Minallah. Rizwan Abbasi, counsel for the petitioner, asserted that Nikah (Muslims’ marriage contract) during iddat was “illegal.”
He argued that since the Nikah during iddat was illegal and un-Islamic, thus Imran Khan again officiated his Nikkah with Bushra Bibi. He said in January 2018, when Imran Khan officiated Nikah with Bushra Bibi, she was in iddat.
He argued that it is fraudulent to say that Imran Khan will become the Prime Minister if he gets married on the first day of 2018 with Bushra Bibi. He said in January 2018, Bushra Bibi was in iddat as the divorce took place in November.
