(Court): SHC grants bail to ex-SSP in recruitment case

Karachi:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday granted a bail to former senior superintendent of police (SSP) of the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Hyderabad, Ghulam Nabi Keerio, in a case pertaining to illegal appointments in the department.

A SHC bench, headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro, heard a bail plea filed by ex-SSP Ghulam Nabi Keerio and granted him bail against the surety bond of Rs2 million.

The counsel of petitioner, Mian Ali Ashfaq, informed the court that National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) inquiry and investigation was based on dishonesty. He said that key accused of the case, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ghulam Hyder Jamali, was already on bail but lower staff had been arrested. The court adjourned the hearing by granting bail to ex-SSP.

It may be noted that former IGP Jamali and ex-SSP Keerio have been accused of misappropriating more than Rs500 million by making hundreds of illegal appointments in the police department.

According to the graft watchdog, the recruitments against 881 vacancies were made for the posts of constables and computer operators among others which caused a loss of more than Rs500 million to the national exchequer.
