(Court): SHC summons secretary local government in rabies case

Karachi:Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday summoned the secretary local government on 20 October in a plea filed against increasing stray dogs and the provision of anti-rabies vaccine (ARV).

A two-member bench of the SHC comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhad and Justice Yousuf Ali Sayyed heard a petition filed by a citizen against increasing stray dogs and the provision of anti-rabies vaccine.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked was the anti-rabies vaccine provided in hospitals? “Court wants to know that there are anti-rabies vaccines in Sindh’s hospitals,” Justice asked. The bench remarked, has the orders issued by court been implemented?

The Additional Advocate General (AAG) informed the court that Sindh government has released funds of Rs 164 million for anti-rabies vaccines and other health related issues.

The court remarked it would summon the secretary of the local government to know what he did. “Public must be informed that a help line had been formed so they can report rabies cases,” the court remarked. It also directed the Sindh Information Department and PEMRA to ensure airing public message on television channels in this regard.
