ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported the number of active cases of Coronavirus over 100,000 mark for third consecutive day, besides 21 new deaths and 7,048 new cases in last 24 hours, as fifth wave of the virus is continuing in the country.

 

According to the latest figures released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on its National Coronavirus Dashboard on Monday morning, 7,048 more Pakistanis tested positive for COVID-19, keeping the country’s number of active cases above the 100,000 mark for the third consecutive day.

 

As many as 7,048 new infections were detected during the last 24 hours after 61,077 diagnostic tests were conducted across the country, placed Pakistan’s COVID-19 positivity ratio at 11.53 per cent and confirmed case count at 1.425 million.

 

Meanwhile, 21 coronavirus patients succumbed to the disease overnight, pushing the nationwide death toll to 29,269. With the continuous uptick in Pakistan’s coronavirus stats, 1,423 coronavirus patients are said to be in critical condition.

 

With 7,048 new coronavirus cases confirmed by the NCOC, the overall tally jumped to 1,425,039 positive cases across the country. With 21 new deaths confirmed by the NCOC the overall toll of fatalities surged to 29,269. In province-wise update of the deadly disease the NCOC confirmed that Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

 

The NCOC confirmed 29,269 overall fatalities across the Pakistan out of which 13,160 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 7,821 in Sindh 5,998 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 980 in Islamabad, 755 in Azad Kashmir, 367 in Balochistan, and 188 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

 

As many as 1,425,039 positive cases were confirmed by NCOC across the country out of which, 541,693 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 478,527 in Punjab 194,166 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 127,497 in Islamabad, 38,115 in Azad Kashmir 34,390 in Balochistan and 10,651 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

 

Pakistan has so far conducted 25,018,383 coronavirus tests and 61,077 in the last 24 hours. 1,291,725 patients have recovered in the country whereas 1,423 patients are in critical condition.

 

So far, 104,228,089 people have received their first dose of coronavirus vaccine including 223,230 in last 24 hours. 80,748,105 citizens have been fully vaccinated, while 322,467 received their second dose in last 24 hours.

 

The number of total administered doses has reached to 174,085,175 with 605,450 in the last 24 hours. The NCOC has extended coronavirus curbs in the country from January 31 till February 15, as thousands continue to contract the infection amid a spread in the Omicron variant.

 

The NCOC had imposed non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on January 19, which were to be reviewed on January 27 in light of the COVID-19 situation in the country. The restrictions for the wedding sector were already imposed till Feb 15. While the countrywide coronavirus situation remains critical, Peshawar is currently the most affected city by the Omicron-driven fifth wave, with 39.63 per cent COVID-19 positivity rate.

 

Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan reported 31.08 percent positivity, the second-highest across the country. The cities with positivity rates over 10 percent include; Muzaffarabad- 27.40%, Mirpur- 15.07%, Lahore- 14.44%, Islamabad- 14.29%, Karachi- 21.79%, Hyderabad- 11.02%, Rawalpindi- 12.62%, Bahawalpur- 10.21%, and Nowshera (KP) 10.88%.
