CPI-M calls separation of Ladakh from J and K on October 31 shameful

New Delhi, October 31, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has termed as shameful the Indian government’s decision to formally declare separation of Ladakh from Jammu and Kashmir and the way the territory was divided without taking the opinion of its citizens.

The Politburo of the CPI-M in a statement issued in New Delhi reiterated its strong opposition to the abrogation of Kashmir’s special status as well as the division and reduced status of the territory. It said that it was a shameful day for India’s democracy that a territory should be divided and deprived of its status without any reference to the opinion of its people or its Assembly.

“No political activity is allowed except by the BJP and its organisations. The voice of Kashmir has been forcibly suppressed. The leaders of political parties and many others are still in jail. The lockdown and shutdown continues,” the statement said.

It is to mention here that the Indian government had on August 5 announced abrogation of the special status of occupied Kashmir and dividing it into two union territories. With effect from today (October 31), Jammu and Kashmir will be bifurcated into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.
