CT scan and MRI machines not operating at ASH

KARACHI:Visiting patients are facing grave hardships at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) ) as two major diagnostic machines are lying out of order since several months, sources at ASH told PPI on Tuesday.

The CT scan machine has developed some technical fault about few months ago and this machine was not repaired yet, while MRI machine was also lying out of order since several months.

The ASH is a KMC’s largest teaching hospital where scores of patients are brought every day from different areas of Karachi and some of them need diagnostic services such CT scan and MRI. But since the major diagnostic machines are not functioning, the patients are being referred to private hospitals.

The private hospitals and labs charge heavy fees for conducting diagnostics tests which are out of reach of poor patients. ASH offers all kind of diagnostic facilities at reasonable prices in the past but due to fault in machines, the poor patients have been compelled to pay heavy fees.

An official at Radiology Department ASH told PPI that hospital administration is unable to get out of order diagnostic equipment’s repair due to shortage of funds. Senior Director Medical and Health Service Department, KMC, Dr Birbal Gennani was not available for comments.
