Srinagar, August 22, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, curfew and other restrictions entered 18th day today aggravating the plight of the entire besieged population in Kashmir and Pirpanchal valley and several places of Jammu. Indian forces have blocked roads by erecting steep barricades and using concertina wires and restricted people to come out on road to protest against Indian aggression. However, people are attempting repeatedly flout curfew and other restrictions to stage protests against abrogation of Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir.
Several people were arrested by Indian forces during house raids in Srinagar and other areas of the valley. The authorities also continue to impose information blockade as TV channels and internet links remain snapped and restrictions on media continue since 5th August when BJPs government announced scraping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
A shopkeeper Niyaz Ahmad in Srinagar during a small relaxation said, “I just come to check the locks of my shop. We are heavily dependent on tourist footfall. This season is gone. We sit outside our shops and don’t open. This closed shop is my small expression of anger against the India’s move.” Meanwhile, schools in the Kashmir Valley continue to register dismal attendance of students in contrast to staff presence, according to officials.
