The Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Mr Ladislav Stienhubel, met with Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office on Monday to discuss avenues of mutual interest, including investment, energy, and tourism.

According to a statement issued from KMC office today, Mayor Wahab welcomed the Czech envoy and provided an overview of Karachi’s rich history, current development projects, and its critical role as Pakistan’s industrial and business hub. Stressing the city’s geographical importance, he underscored the potential for foreign investment, particularly in industrial zones being developed to boost exports and stabilize the national economy.

The mayor highlighted the government’s commitment to creating an investor-friendly environment. ‘Foreign cooperation in Karachi’s development projects is vital. Such collaborations will not only enhance the city’s infrastructure but also improve living standards,’ he said. He extended a warm invitation to Czech investors and experts, encouraging business delegations to explore the opportunities Karachi has to offer.

Ambassador Stienhubel lauded Karachi’s status as an economic powerhouse and expressed optimism for enhancing bilateral relations. ‘The development of Karachi will benefit not only the city but Pakistan as a whole. We look forward to collaboration in areas such as technology transfer and infrastructure development,’ he said.

Following the meeting, the ambassador toured the historical KMC building, where Mayor Wahab shared insights into its architecture and significance. The visit included the Council Hall, where the mayor highlighted the inclusive nature of Karachi’s civic governance. He noted that for the first time, transgender individuals have been given representation in the council under the Pakistan Peoples Party’s policy.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the leadership’s policy of inclusive governance and cross-party collaboration, stating that such measures were yielding positive outcomes for Karachi’s development.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing hope for stronger ties between Pakistan and the Czech Republic, paving the way for future cooperation.
