DAY: (National Resilience Day being observed to mark tragic earthquake of 2005)

ISLAMABAD: National Resilience Day is being observed today (Thursday) to mark the 15th year of the tragic earthquake of 2005.

The 2005 earthquake claimed thousands of lives besides causing massive damage to infrastructure especially in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Different events are being organized in different parts of the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir to express solidarity and sympathies with the victims of calamities.

The day dawned with special prayers in mosques for the martyrs and prosperity of the country. One minute silence observed at all district headquarters at 08.54 am.

In Balakot a function was held at the survivors of the earthquake, members of the civil society and other organizations attended the function and one-minute silence was observed to remember the martyrs.

According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa more than seventy-three thousand people lost their lives and one hundred and thirty-eight thousand others were injured in the quake.
