In a historic initiative to elevate Gwadar Port as a major regional logistics hub, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry today announced various rate reductions to increase global transit traffic.
The initiative includes a 25% reduction in berthing fees for container ships and a significant 40% reduction in port charges for international transshipment containers. This comprehensive tariff revision also includes a reduction of up to 31% in port charges for transit container cargo.
In addition to these adjustments, the port will now provide a one-month free storage facility for general cargo, offering substantial financial relief to ships carrying transit and transshipment cargo.
These incentives, described as record-breaking compared to other national ports, are expected to significantly reduce operational costs for shipping lines, attracting more cargo handling activities to Gwadar.
Minister Chaudhry emphasized that the implementation of this policy marks the beginning of Gwadar’s transformation into a major logistics hub, promoting economic activities and creating new employment opportunities in the region.
Gwadar Port Chairman Noor ul Haq Baloch supported these views, highlighting the anticipated increase in job opportunities in Balochistan and the potential expansion of the logistics sector. The new tariff structure is strategically designed to boost trade and strengthen the local economy.
