Delegation of Child Rights Movement activists call on Federal Minister for Human Rights

Islamabad, January 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): A delegation of Child Rights Movement activists called on Federal Minister for Human Rights Dr. Shireen Mizari this afternoon. The Minister warmly welcomed the guests and said that the Government is committed to improve Human Rights situation in Pakistan. Besides initiating legislations in different areas, the Ministry is focusing on inplacing a mechanism for the swift enforcement of the existing laws. To improve Human Rights situation in the country, particularly for Child Protection, the Minister underscored the need of educating people and of changing their mind-set. “The real issue is to change the mind-set of people. It is an uphill task.”

She said. She also mentioned that the subject of environmental sciences and Human Rights will be made a part of the National Curriculum. The delegates were informed that the Ministry is also launching different awareness campaigns. “Because of devolution, a lot of issues are with the provinces and Federal government can’t directly involved in them but we are targeting Islamabad”, said Dr. Mizari. The delegates gave different suggestions to strengthen cooperation among the different forums working for Child Rights awareness and protection. It was agreed to utilize the existing networks to increase the reach of the initiatives taken up by the Ministry of Human Rights.
