Delegation of Rawalpindi district bar calls on Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan

Karachi: A 15 Member delegation of newly elected body of Rawalpindi District Bar Association headed by President, Mr. Sajid Ilyas Bhatti and consisting other office bearers called on the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice. Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary today i.e. 28.01.2012 in Supreme Court Building, Islamabad.

Felicitating the newly elected body his lordship said, “It is a tremendous achievement for you people as you have been given the mandate as the representatives of the bar to work for their welfare and betterment. It is a good omen and indicate democratic approach of legal fraternity that every year the representatives of the bars are elected by their members”.

His lordship further emphasized that bench and bar are the integral part of the same system. His lordship also appreciated the unprecedented steps taken by legal fraternity for rule of law, supremacy constitution and independence of judiciary in the country.

The delegation also praised his lordship’s efforts that instilled a spirit in legal fraternity to follow the path of Constitutionalism in country. The delegation also apprised his lordship about their future planning for the betterment of bar and to keep a vigilant eye over the venal practices causing bad name for the institution.

They also informed his lordship that a Human Rights committee of bar members will also visit jail to observe jail conditions in their district. The delegation was informed that under the National Judicial Policy the bar members are also the part of committee to be headed by District and Sessions Judge to inspect the jails.

The Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan further suggested them to constitute different sub-committees entrusted with different tasks of inspecting juvenile, women and other parts of jail. They were also suggested that a panel of volunteer lawyers to be nominated by the bar can also visit the jails along with the inspection committee headed by District and Sessions Judge, to extend legal assistance to the deserving prisoners.

Discussing the issue of corrupt practices in bars, the delegation informed his lordship that they are determined to uproot corrupt practices and ensure transparency by discouraging allmads and munshi culture etc in bars.

The Honourable Chief Justice extolled their vision and underlined the need to curb the menace of corruption as it not only undermines the image of institution but also hampers the administration of justice.

The delegation assured full support and cooperation in process of dispensation of expeditious and inexpensive justice and to stand by the judiciary. The delegation also presented a bouquet of flowers to his lordship as token of love, respect and gesture of good will. His lordship conveyed his gratitude and extended his thanks to them.
