Demo against detention of Hurriyat Leaders in IOK

Srinagar, July 27, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (JKMC), Shabbir Ahmed Dar and Tehreek Istiqlal Chairman, Ghulam Nabi Wasim led a protest demonstration at Sagipora in Sopore against the illegal detention of Hurriyat leaders and activists lodged in different jails of India and the territory.

Shabbir Ahmed Dar addressing the protesters reminded the international community about their responsibilities towards the sufferings of Kashmiri people particularly the political prisoners lodged in different jails. He said that the Kashmiri prisoners of conscience were being denied the basic facilities by the jail authorities to harass and frighten them. They are not being taken to court even to attend their fake trials, he added.

“The denial of health care and not producing them in the courts is a well-designed policy to torture these freedom-lovers mentally and physically. Most of the political prisoners are suffering from serious ailments and need specialized medical attention and treatment but they are being denied and their lives are in danger,” he added.

Shabbir Dar said that these prisoners of conscience had committed no crime and were only demanding for their people the right to self-determination, which was guaranteed by the UN. He urged the UN General Secretary, António Guterres, to immediately send a special rapporteur on prisoners who will himself see how India is treating the Kashmiri political prisoners and he should also ask India to release all illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists.
