Demo in Kargil against controversial citizenship law

Kargil, December 18, 2019 (PPI-OT): A peaceful protest demonstration was organized by Imam Khomeini Memorial Trust (IKMT) in Kargil district of Ladakh region against the controversial citizenship law approved by Indian parliament.

The protesters were carrying black banners which read “Take back the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.” The rally started from Baroo under the leadership of IKMT Chairman and prominent religious leader Sheikh Sadiq Rajai and went round the town before concluding peacefully. The protesters were demanding the withdrawal of the amended citizenship law.

The protesters also condemned the police action on the students during protests against the law in Delhi and other places in India. The marchers shouted slogans in support of restoration of internet services, which continue to remain suspended in Ladakh and other regions of occupied Kashmir since August 5.

Meanwhile, Sikh organizations Akali Dal, Dal Khalsa, Muslim community of Malarkotla also held a massive rally in Amritsar city of Indian state of Punjab, today, against the citizenship law, NRC and undemocratic behaviour of Indian police against the students of Jamia Millia, New Delhi, and Aligarh Muslim University.
