Demo in Srinagar against onslaught on Article 35-A

Srinagar, August 25, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a demonstration was held in Srinagar, today, by the Pensioners Welfare Association (PWA) and senior citizens of the Kashmir Valley against the attempts by the BJP government in New Delhi to abrogate Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees special rights and privileges to the permanent residents of Jammu and Kashmir.

A large number of senior citizens and pensioners led by the PWA President, Sampat Prakash, assembled at Pratap Park in Srinagar and held a demonstration in favour of the retention of the Article-35-A. The protesters carried placards and banners that read “Save Article 35-A”, “Save disputed status of Kashmir”.

“We will stand firm with every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir to defend Article 35-A,” said a protester, Muhammad Akbar Mir. The demonstrators said that the nefarious tactics of extremist Hindu organizations Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) would not be allowed to succeed.
