Demos in Pulwama against desecration of martyr’s grave

Srinagar, May 30, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, people staged forceful demonstrations in Drabgam area of Pulwama district, today, against the desecration and vandalization of the grave of a martyred youth, Sameer Ahmed Butt alias Sameer Tiger, by the Indian troops.

Locals said that after coming out of mosque following the early morning prayers they found that the headstone of Sameer Tiger’s grave was missing. They said that the Indian forces’ personnel vandalized the grave of Sameer at the Martyrs’ Graveyard in the area. They said that the stone had been taken away by the Indian Army, last night. “The banners covering the grave were also torn to shreds,” said a local.

Scores of the locals gathered at main chowk in Drabgam protesting against the missing gravestone. Later, scores of locals reached Pulwama and staged a sit-in protest outside the DC Office demanding immediate recovery and erection of the gravestone.

Meanwhile, a spontaneous shutdown was observed in Drabgam and Rajpora areas of Pulwama against the desecration of Sameer’s grave. Youth also pelted stones upon the Indian Army camp in Shadimarg area of Pulwama. It is to mention here that Sameer was killed along with another youth by the Indian troops during a siege and search operation on April 30, this year. The grave of Sameer had become the centre of attraction and it was decorated with flowers and flags.
