Detention of Aasiya, aides deliberately being prolonged: DeM

Srinagar, April 14, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) has slammed the deliberate attempts by the Indian judiciary to prolong the detention of its party leaders, Aasiya Andrabi, Nahida Nasreen and Fahmida Sufi.

The DeM spokesperson in a statement in Srinagar, said: “The leaders were once again produced before the Indian infamous NIA court on April 11. The NIA has failed to present all the required papers before the court. However, the court is giving renewal dates to fulfill their tactics to prolong their illegal custody and consequently keep them under detention. And now the new date has been set on May 6, 2019.”

The spokesperson said that due to lack of facilities in the Tihar Jail, Sufi Fehmeeda has become very ill and Aasiya Andrabi too needs medical care. She demanded the Amnesty International and the human rights bodies should play a pro-active role to press for the release of the DeM leaders.
