DG health issues COVID-19 advisory

KARACHI:Director General, Health Services Sindh, has issued coronavirus sampling and testing advisory on Thursday.


The Minister Health and Population Welfare Department has issued directives about implementation of SOPs during virtual meeting held with health managers. The Deputy Commissioners and District Health Officers have been instructed to ensure implementation on standard operating procedure (SOPs) for timely processing of COVID-19 tests at public sector laboratories.


The SOPs are: COVID-19 suspects of more than 60-year age, having symptoms and suffering from comorbidities, will undergo PCR testing at public sector laboratories.


The suspect persons who do not fall in above criterion including those having contact history be suggested to go under self-quarantine duly supervised by health staff, at least for 14 days. Testing of educational faculty staff and students will be undertaken if they are symptomatic.


Once antigen tests are available at health department, all symptomatic suspects cases and educational institution contacts will have tests done for antigen. PCR will remain reserved for category No. patients.


The travellers are advised to have their COVID-19 testing done at their own expenses from private lab.
