In a significant diplomatic initiative, Acting President of Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani today personally reached out to top Malaysian parliamentary officials, inviting them to a crucial upcoming summit in Islamabad designed to foster regional stability through inter-parliamentary dialogue.
The invitations were formally extended during separate telephone conversations with the Speaker of Malaysia’s lower house, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Johari Abdul, and the President of the Dewan Negara, Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah. Gilani, who is also the Founding Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), has requested their presence at the gathering.
The high-level conclave, hosted by the Senate of Pakistan, is scheduled to take place in the nation”s capital from November 10 to 12, 2025.
During the discussions, the Acting President underscored the critical role of parliamentary diplomacy in cultivating greater understanding and partnership among nations. He stressed its importance for advancing peace throughout the region. Mr. Gilani also conveyed his appreciation for Malaysia”s enduring friendship with Pakistan and its constructive engagement in strengthening inter-parliamentary connections.
Both Malaysian dignitaries welcomed the gesture and expressed a strong interest in attending the conference. They communicated their eagerness to further deepen the collaborative relationship between the legislative bodies of Pakistan and Malaysia.
